  Wine & Cheese Information Event: FFG Call Spin-off Fellowship
 

 

 

The Wine & Cheese information event for the third call of the FFG Call Spin-off Fellowship will take place on October 11th at the Research Services (Berggasse 7, Seminar room 2), from 17:00 to 19:00.

The Spin-off Fellowship program is intended to support researchers (individuals or teams), including those from the humanities, social and cultural sciences, to further develop early-stage technologies, research results, etc. and build a business strategy, with the aim of starting a spin-off company. The funding period is between 12 and 18 months. The funded Fellows are 100% employed by the University of Vienna for the duration of the grant. They must have at least a BA and a professor or group leader must provide in-kind mentoring and support for the project.

Basic information:

Funding: min. 100,000 €, max. 500,000 € (Personnel, material and training costs)

Application Deadline: Spring 2019

Duration: 12-18 months

  Christian Doppler Laboratory Information Event - 10
October 2018
 

 

 

Christian Doppler laboratories are established at universities and non-university research institutions to foster cooperation between research institutions and industry. The research group, led by a senior scientist, therefore acts as a separate research unit with close contact to the industry partner(s), and works on application-oriented basic research topics.

CD labs follow a bottom-up approach, are implemented for up to 7 years and will be financed 50/50 by both the CD Gesellschaft and the industry partner(s).

The information event (held in English) is aimed at highly-qualified scientists employed at the University of Vienna. It will take place on 10 October, from 17:00 to 18:30, at the Marietta-Blau-Saal (Universitätsring 1, 1010 Wien).

  GitHub Workshop for Beginners - 25 October 2018
 

 

 

The Open Science Network Austria (OANA) and the Knowledge Transfer Center East (WTZ Ost) are organizing a GitHub Workshop for beginners on October 25th, from 15:00 - 17:00, with a focus on use in science.

The two-hour workshop is aimed specifically at scientists and students without any programming background and from all disciplines. The number of participants is limited to 20 people and the workshop will be held in German.

  Houskapreis 2019: Call for Applications Open
 

 

 

The submission of applications for the Huskapreis is open from September 1 through November 30, 2018.

The B&C Privatstiftung awards the Houskapreis in the categories "University Research" and "Research & Development in SMEs", with a total funding of € 500.000, being the largest private prize for application-oriented research in Austria.

The prize acknowledges excellent scientific research with economic potential and is intended to give the winning projects maximum freedom and flexibility in conducting further research activities.

  GATE: Pre-incubation program for sciencepreneurs
 

 

 

GATE (Garage Tech Edition) is an interdisciplinary program supporting early entrepreneurial projects based on the outcome of scientific research.  The program is jointly organized by WU Gründungszentrum and the Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

The target groups of GATE are inventors of promising technologies/products that aim at commercializing them and management students looking for opportunities to participate in technology-driven ventures. During the eight-weeks program, inventors will get support in finding and forming a venture team as well as developing and seizing a business case.

Participation is free for Knowledge Transfer Center (WTZ) applicants (the University of Vienna is a WTZ member).

To apply for the GATE program, please submit a short project proposal to Martin Schott (Opens window for sending emailmartin.schott@wu.ac.at). The application deadline is September 21st.

  Science-Industry Day - 26 September 2018
 

 

 

The Science Industry Day 2018, titled “Micro. Macro. Global.” is jointly organized by the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) and the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV).

The purpose of the event is to give participants an insight into how innovation is cultivated in the industry as well as to facilitate the dialogue between groundbreakers in industry and academia.
